We've made it 1 month! I sure hope this year literally "flies by". Ryan is doing pretty good. They are now at their COP and working on making it more comfortable. I sure hope they're building showers because for the last 3 weeks they've been using baby wipes and water bottles. I don't even want to try to imagine how they all smell...gross! Ryan shared something neat with me yesterday. Here's what he said, "The guys (Josh,Jones, and Goodrich) want me to bless the food whenever we all get to eat together, which is usually for dinner. They like it for some reason. Jones says it makes him feel better after we pray. Pretty cool." I know that he'll have lots of opportunities to be a great example. Here's some information from his Commander:
After a long trip halfway around the world, the Battle Ready Soldiers of Chosin are finally settling into their home away from home. As we all arrived in Afghanistan, Soldiers were given several days of high quality training concerning IEDs and enemy tactics. Upon completion of our initial training, Battle Company moved out to replace Renegade Company. For 10 days Chosin Soldiers conducted operations “Shauna-ba-Shauna” (shoulder to shoulder in the native Dari) with their Renegade and Afghan National Army counterparts. As Soldiers roamed the grape rows and farms of the Afghan countryside, members of Renegade Company led Battle Company, teaching us how to maneuver through the terrain effectively and safely. After spending 10 months here, Renegade Company had a wealth of knowledge to impart on Chosin Soldiers. This wisdom was vital and will make us more successful as we look to bring peace and prosperity to the Arghandab River Valley. Soldiers of Battle Company talked with Renegade for hours, gaining every bit of information possible. Battle Company is now fully ready to accomplish our mission in defeating the Taliban and empowering the Afghans we meet and talk to everyday. Renegade Company helped us immensely as we’ve started our operations, and we are very thankful for how well they set us up for success.
Once Renegade Company left to continue their deployment elsewhere, Battle Company got to work conducting our missions with the Afghan National Army and improving quality of life for Soldiers. Renegade Company left us a fantastic MWR with phones and Internet so Soldiers can keep in touch with their loved ones back home. Soldiers can even watch the Armed Forces Network on our TV here to keep up on the latest ESPN updates and other shows. Our cooks are making up excellent meals varying from breakfast, to Mexican themed nights, to prime ribs and potatoes. Everything possible is being done to keep Soldiers as comfortable as possible so they’re morale stays high. The most important part of staying motivated is the love and support families from back home have shown us. Soldiers have started getting their mail and many are sending letters back home. We thank all of our friends and family for their continued support and love as we move forward with our deployment.
Battle Ready!
Thanks everyone for prayers and support. 11 more months!!!!
